  2. To add to the story.. a comment from Gerald Lally... Posted here with his permission...

"Great to see this article. I live and farm here in the picturesque Clare Valley, South Australia. My ggg grandmother Bridget Naulty (nee O'Neill) arrived here with her children in 1846 from Glendalough, Co Wicklow. Her son-in-law, Patrick Butler and his wife Sarah (nee Naulty) arrived in 1839 and worked for Edward (Paddy) Gleeson.
the Butler's were shepherds for Gleeson until they were able to purchase their own land just on the outskirts of Clare, in a small area called Armagh. The Naulty's remained in the area owning their own land or worked on various larger properties. The first vineyards weren't planted in the valley until 1851, by the Austrian Jesuits, who arrived here in Australia in 1848."

If you have anything to add to the story, please do so in comments. Thank you.
