CLARE CHATTER...Dec 21, 2015 Winter Solstice, Begrudgery, Clare Roots Society

Winter Solstice : Newgrange

Above the entrance to the passage at Newgrange there is an opening called a roof-box. Its purpose is to allow sunlight to penetrate the passage and chamber at sunrise around the Winter Solstice. At 8:58am a narrow beam of light penetrates the roof-box and reaches the floor of the chamber, gradually extending to the rear of the passage. As the sun rises higher, the beam widens within the chamber so that the whole room becomes dramatically illuminated. After 17 minutes the sunbeam leaves the chamber and retreats back down the passage.

John Grenham today on a particular Irish trait- Begrudgery!

We are delighted with the success of the two most recent publications, the Cathedral by John Bradley and Ballynacally/Lissycasey by Mary Hester.

Clare Roots Society is now preparing it's  2016 -  2017 publication programme as part of it's future activities
and are inviting writers & editors to submit proposals with regard to this programme.

The Society would particularly like to invite Editors to come forward that would be willing to write about their particular area or Parish.
While there is no financial reward for anybody associated with the publication there is immense reward for the writer and their community.

You can contact me with your proposal or for further information.

Hope many of you are planning  your first or second or twentieth trip to Clare next year.  Apart from our conference taking place in September, Ennis is hosting the All Ireland Fleadh in August and Clare is definitely the place to be in 2016.
