Press Release re March Meeting of the Western Family History Association.

The Western Family History Association host a lecture entitled The Clare Roots Society from small beginnings to God knows where... by Larry Brennan.

The Western Family History Association is a genealogy association based in Galway.  It is a self-help group for its members and does not carry out research.  The Association holds regular meetings throughout the year where a guest speaker talks about a genealogical topic. There also are other activities such as workshops and excursions to places of interest to members and also a major genealogical event during Heritage Week.  Meetings are open to the general public.  In addition to these activities it provides a continually expanding library of genealogical and historical books for members' usage.  The next meeting of the Western Family History Association's will be held on Wednesday the 14th March 2012 at 8.15pm at the Claregalway Hotel.  The speaker on the night will be Larry Brennan from Ennis.  Larry Brennan took up Genealogy after the death of his parents in 1999. He has been one of the founder members of The Clare Roots Society. He has been co-editor of Drumcliff & Corrovorrin Graveyards in Ennis and is currently working on the archival records available on O' Connell Street in Ennis. He has assisted Diaspora members through the internet with Clare links throughout the world. Larry likes to think of himself as the family archivist.

Larry will address the Western History Association with a talk entitled 'Clare Roots Society from small beginnings to God knows where.' The presentation will review the work of the society since 2006. Topics covered will include the society's links with the Clare County Library, the recording, transcribing and internet access of their gravestone transcription records and their outreach programmes which will demonstrate the butter box method of Genealogy.  Clare Roots Society have been responsible for the setting up of Clare Diaspora Groups in Australia & America, which facilitate the indexing of the Society's projects back in Clare. Their memorial card project will show the process involved in the collection and access to these cards. Their involvement in Genealogy projects with regard to Heritage Day is unique in Ireland and finally, Larry will review the recent Clare Roots Genealogy Conference and confirm details of their next Conference in 2013.

The Western Family History Association hope that they can take inspiration from their counterpart in the neighbouring county of Clare to advance genealogy and tracing ancestry in county Galway.  They look forward to seeing existing members there and hopefully welcoming additional people with an interest in family history to the meeting on the night.  For further information on the Western Family History Association log onto www.wfha.info or email info@wfha.info.
